What Is Postcoital Bleeding?

Postcoital bleeding is vaginal bleeding that occurs after sexual intercourse. It is not part of a menstrual period.

  • The amount of bleeding can range from light spotting to heavier bleeding
  • It can happen after vaginal penetration, including sex toys or fingers
  • It can occur at any age

Many causes are benign, but postcoital bleeding should be checked, especially if it happens more than once.
